About “Winter Honor”

Winter Honor, an abstract painting, is an homage to the amazing hit television series Game of Thrones.

Inspiration

Generally, I start a painting with an idea about what story to tell or what direction to go. With this painting, my mind was a blank slate. Therefore, I allowed the moment to guide me toward a masterpiece. I suppose you could imagine what I was doing at the time. I was watching GOT, the well-known abbreviation for Game of Thrones, and the rest fell into place.

Description

In this painting, I used the neo-expressionism style and characteristics more than other paintings. The yellow color really stands out in this artwork, and I wanted the yellow oil pastel strokes and the yellow acrylic brush strokes to represent violence. I approach this violence symbolism by applying aggressive techniques on the canvas. The yellow background makes the secondary colors black, white, blue, and red pop out.

As always, I like to add word metaphors representing real life in my artwork.  However, I also wanted to tie these metaphors to Game of Thrones. The words that fit both real life and Game of Thrones are 'honor,' 'winter is coming,' 'wolf,' 'the night,' and 'lord snow,' and I intertwined all within the artwork.
