About “Ninja Face”

The Painting

This contemporary canvas wall art showcases an African mask portrait as the main focus of the artwork. The mask has eyes, a nose, and a mouth drawn on the face, but the disconnection between the features is intentional. I feel the layers make the mask authentic.

On the surface, the name of the painting, "Ninja Face," doesn't make any sense.  It was a name that came to my attention when I finished painting. However, I was thinking of the contrast between Eastern and African culture at the time, so the name of the artwork stuck out to me. I embraced it.

Like my previous artwork, I added messages, words, and phrases in the artwork to support its meaning.

I framed the African mask with red, blue, yellow, and orange colors.  The colors help the mask pop out in the painting.

The materials used to create this painting are pastels, pencils, acrylic markers, and spray paint.

Additionally, I want to mention the inscriptions that inspired this painting because I used the influences throughout the piece.  The first inspiration is street art. The second is contemporary artists like Mr. Brainwash and Retna. Graffiti of artists like Keith Haring and Basquiat is third.
